Topps cuts a 1/1 for De Paula's first home run

Ten games after his call-up from Double-A, the 21-year-old Dodger has r/mlb talking and a Topps NOW 1/1 built around a game-used base from the night he went deep.

De Paula came straight up from Double-A Tulsa on September 11 and has hit .286/.474/.974 across 10 games and 38 plate appearances, with 10 walks against four strikeouts. Topps answered the first home run, a three-run shot two days after his debut, with Topps NOW Card 668: a 1/1 built around part of the game-used base from that game, with the standard version at $11.99. The cards fans will actually go looking for are his Bowman Chrome Prospects issues from 2023, 2024 and 2026, and those had not moved on the price trackers when we checked.

The match is set for Estadio Monumental on October 6, 2026. Footy Headlines states no retail availability, no on-sale date and no price, so there is nothing to buy or preorder off this yet.

Select is one of Panini's mainstream basketball flagships and this is the first date we have carried for the 2025-26 edition. Checklist Insider calls October 14 an estimate rather than a Panini-confirmed street date, so treat it as a trade-source marker until Panini says otherwise. The hobby box prices on its page run roughly $219 to $325 with cases from about $650, and those are eBay listings, not MSRP.

The buyer found it while searching for something else and said it reminded them of the much-chased blank slate case hit, only with a hint of border color left in. The replies are the story: one collector said they were about to go through the set's checklist having never looked at it before, a second said they had bought into the same set because the actual blank slates are out of reach, and a third named which bigger players they still need from it. Nobody put a number on the set beyond the six pounds the original card cost.

Baseball's Greatest Moments argues Ohtani and Babe Ruth cannot be compared on a batting line alone

Ohtani's four MVPs came in a five year window, and he won two of them while also making 23 starts as a front line pitcher. The card cannot show that half of it. Ruth's pitching record is the same problem in reverse. Before he became a full time hitter he threw 29 and two thirds consecutive scoreless innings in the World Series, a mark that stood for more than 40 years. In 2024 Ohtani stole 59 bases and hit 54 home runs. Compare them however you like, but not with a batting line alone.

The case rests on four Ohtani MVPs inside five years, two of them in seasons he also made 23 starts as a front-line pitcher, set against Ruth's 29 2/3 consecutive scoreless World Series innings before he moved to hitting full time. Every figure is the account's own graphic, not checked here.
